Earl Smith

earl-smith-1With decades of sales, service, training, and managing, I began my sales career  in Canton, Ohio. Young and ready to conquer the world, I set my sights on California where I started a career with CBS Musical Instruments in 1961. After being mentored by the executive of the company I was promoted to District Sales Manager responsible for

Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and was actually named District Sales Manager of the year in 1962. I developed, and built a sales team that went over and above the goals set forth.  As  I developed in that position, I went on to win many national sales related awards at CBS. In 1975, I moved my entertainment sales career to Chicago and worked with Hammond Organ Company where I was able to put my new skills  to work managing a sales force that was responsible for 17 districts across the USA, while at the same time maintaining and growing Hammond’s top 20 major accounts.

In 1983 my sales and sales management career moved in a new direction and brought me back to my home in Ohio when I was hired by AT&T in Chicago to sell, manage, and train a sales force in Akron, Ohio. I continued my career at AT&T as we changed names and moved the Yellow Pages into a powerhouse of advertising revenues. Transferred to Columbus, Ohio my sales team and I won many awards for our sale contributions to AT&T, including the coveted Pinnacle Award that very few ever received.

I then traveled the USA responsible for training many markets and hundreds of sales people on the value and use of Call Measurement Services (CMS) which allowed the advertiser to see and feel the response rate of their advertising program. I helped usher in the new media called the Internet for Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Little would I know at the time I would watch as an entire media shift take place.

After  travelling the USA for CMS services and working with the top publishers of Yellow Pages, I was hired by the Newspaper Media to help train seasoned newspapers sales professionals. Again training hundreds of sales managers and people across the great USA.

In my home town of Columbus, Ohio I was asked to become the Director of Sales for a well known local community newspaper. Here I built, managed, trained, and mentored a group of both inside and outside sales people.

Self driven to perform, my sales career spans decades, I have mentored sales people and managers in many states, industries, and management positions. My philosophy is to “do what’s right” for the customer, the company, and the sales rep. I now offer my services to all those who wish to be great sales people but lack, or have forgotten the basics of a sales call. My passion is sales and my goal is your goal, to provide the very best salespeople for your organization. I preach “make it your business”.
